Detecting cows on heat has become increasingly difficult over the past few decades. Herd sizes have increased, the availability of skilled labour has decreased and there is evidence that cows are having shorter heats and their heats are of lower intensity.
The use of collars (and ear tags for SenseHub) to detect heats and also to monitor animal behaviour has advanced significantly in the last 2-3 years, to also include health monitoring by tracking rumination and/or eating activity, enabling earlier identification of animal illness.
NMR now offers two automated heat detection & health monitoring solutions, to support the differing system and data connectivity requirements that farmers typically have.
